With the excellence of the Olympic champion, Joseph Schooling has always held a great position on the “green track” at the SEA Games. However, the Singaporean fisherman just had to receive “bitter fruit” before the excellence of 4 competitors from Vietnam, the host of the 31st SEA Games.
Nguyen Huy Hoang, Nguyen Huu Kim Son, Hoang Quy Phuoc and Tran Hung Nguyen excellently brought gold for the Vietnamese sports team
In the men’s 4x200m medley relay event, the Vietnamese team including players Nguyen Huy Hoang, Nguyen Huu Kim Son, Hoang Quy Phuoc and Tran Hung Nguyen won first place after 4 swims with a total record of 7 minutes 16 seconds 31, breaking the old record of the SEA Games (7 minutes 17 seconds 88) set by Singapore athletes in 2019.
The first person to start the Vietnamese team is Kim Son and finish the first 200m, Singapore is the leading team. However, Huy Hoang accelerated strongly to help Vietnam overcome Singapore after the first 400m. In the third swim, Schooling started the match with Hoang Quy Phuoc.
The Singaporean couldn’t help the home team get ahead and in the last 200m, Hung Nguyen made an impressive speed, leaving everything behind to help Vietnam win gold. Singapore team only achieved 7 minutes 21 seconds 49, won bronze.
This is the first gold medal in the men’s 4x200m medley relay of Vietnam at the SEA Games. Previously, Vietnam Tel was crowned in the 4×100 men’s medley relay, but there was a lot of controversy because the two teams with better records, Singapore and Malaysia, were eliminated due to violation of the rules.
This is the 7th gold medal of the Vietnamese swimming team at the 31st SEA Games. Previously, Huy Hoang won 2 gold medals in the content of 1,500m and 400m in freestyle. Tran Hung Nguyen won 2 gold medals in 200m backstroke and 400m medley. Pham Thanh Bao broke the SEA Games record and won gold in the 100m breaststroke.
