Ueckermünde (Mecklenburg-West Pomerania) – A fire in an apartment building in Ueckermünde caused a violent explosion in an apartment. The 33-year-old resident was seriously injured.
“The apartment owner was able to leave the fire apartment independently. However, he suffered such severe burn injuries that he had to be flown to a special clinic in Berlin by rescue helicopter,” said a police spokesman on Tuesday morning.
Two other tenants had to be rescued from their balconies on the 4th floor by the fire brigade. The remaining eleven residents of the house were able to go outside independently. They were unharmed.
The fire and explosion broke out on Monday evening for reasons that are still unclear. The blast shattered the windows of the third floor apartment. According to the police, all apartments in the house are currently uninhabitable.
The damage to the apartment building amounted to more than 200,000 euros.
