(Live Rome Masters) Top two seeds Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev are expected to face many difficulties in their opening match.

Novak Djokovic – Aslan Karatsev: 19h, 10/5, round 2

Djokovic had a bad start to the clay season when he was soon eliminated in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters. The world No. 1 then reached his first final of 2022 at the Serbia Open in his home country, where he was defeated by Andrey Rublev. Then at the Madrid Open, Djokovic reached the semi-finals before losing to young player Carlos Alcaraz, who was crowned champion later.

Djokovic gradually improved through each clay tournament this year

Meanwhile, Karatsev started the 2022 season by winning the Sydney International, defeating Andy Murray in the final. However, the Russian tennis player dropped in form when they all soon stopped in the opening round in 3 consecutive clay tournaments.

At the ongoing Rome Masters, Karatsev’s first round was not easy when the 28-year-old player needed a tie-break in the third set to beat Lloyd Harris 3-6, 6-3, 7- sixty seven). That victory helped Karatsev face Djokovic, who has won the Masters 1000 five times in Italy.

Unexpectedly, Djokovic and Karatsev are having a head-to-head ratio of 1-1. The first match between the two players took place in the semi-finals of the Australian Open last year, where Djokovic won easily 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. That same year, Djokovic and Karatsev clashed in the semi-finals of the Serbia Open and the Russian tennis player reclaimed the debt by winning 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

Andrey Rublev – Filip Krajinovic: 0h, 11/5, round 2

Rublev’s clay season began at the Monte Carlo Masters, where he lost to Jannik Sinner in three sets in the third round. The Russian then won his 11th career title at the Serbia Open with a 6-6 victory. 2, 6-7 (4), 6-0 before world number 1 Djokovic in the final.

The challenge is not easy for Rublev

At the Madrid Open last week, Rublev lost to world number 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets in the quarterfinals. It was Rublev’s third consecutive loss to the Greek on clay.

Meanwhile, Krajinovic started this year’s clay season with a first-round loss to Dusan Lajovic at the Monte Carlo Masters. Then, the world number 54 defeated David Goffin in just two sets at the Serbia Open, before losing to Thiago Monteiro in the second round.

At the Madrid Open, Krajinovic soon stopped in the first round against John Isner. Krajinovic started the Rome Masters campaign with a 7-6 (7), 7-6 (4) victory over world number 26 Frances Tiafoe.

Rublev has met Krajinovic 4 times in the past, with an even head-to-head record with a score of 2-2. Therefore, the next match promises not to be easy for the 6th seed.
