Hanover’s handball warriors need a new assistant coach. Iker Romero (40), assistant to Carlos Ortega (49) since 2017, will not renew his contract, which expires at the end of the season. The Spaniard will be the head coach himself in the summer – at second division Bietigheim.
“The time has now come for me to take a new path and stand by my side as head coach myself,” says the former world-class player (200 international matches, 2005 world champion) explaining the move.
In Hanover, Romero is particularly valued for his work with the young players. Until 2020 he also trained the A-youth. “We are grateful to Iker for his passionate work with the warriors and already wish him all the best,” says Sports Director Sven-Sören Christophersen (35).
This means that TSV can be certain of at least one of the two coaching positions. Ortega’s contract is also expiring, but his whereabouts are considered likely. For the new season he has to look for a new right hand.
