Vent-Down !: Leaning Tower of Apolda blown up

Apolda – If there is a need at the chimney, you can rely on demolition manager Reinhard Weiß (71). On Wednesday he said: Schlot-Down in Apolda!

Problem child here: the chimney, orphaned since the beginning of the nineties, on the wasteland of the old brick factory on Katharinenweg. This recently had a spectacular as well as threatening imbalance!

White: “On the weather side, the chimney becomes damp, the joints burst and swell. At some point it then leans to the side facing away from the weather. “

In order to avert possible dangers from falling rocks or even collapse, the country ordered the controlled demolition. “A total of 1750 grams of Riodin HE25 were distributed in 14 boreholes,” said Weiß. “It’s a kind of gelatinous dynamite.”

Then at 11.09 a.m. the signal for the ignition. Less than seven seconds later, the 55 meter high chimney was laid down. “Everything according to plan,” says the expert.

BILD revealed the southern Thuringian: It was probably his last demolition. “My son has all blasting licenses, will now be my successor.”
