Today, online discussion on child abuse

The violent death of an 8-year-old girl in Ho Chi Minh City is causing anger in the national public. A wave of calls for the whole society to “stop being silent” and “to fight violence against children” is spreading.

Statistics of the Ministry of Public Security in 2020 show that there are 2,000 cases of serious child abuse. Only in the first 6 months of the year, the National Center for Child Protection provided deep support and intervention for 706 children, including 362 cases of violence. Studies also show that nearly 80% of children are abused in the family, the person who causes the most violence against them is their parents.

More importantly, combating child abuse is a matter of great concern to the whole society, but it seems that people do not yet know how to behave, intervene or rescue when faced with this situation.

This is the focus of the discussion, which will take place at 10:00 am on January 5 on VnExpress. Guests include Mr. Dang Hoa Nam, Director of the Children’s Department (Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs), Ms. Le Mai Quyen – consultant of the National Switchboard for Child Protection 111 and journalist Pham Gia Hien.

At the seminar, the guests will answer readers’ questions about violence against children, share ways of supporting and rescuing when children are being abused.
