(Sports news, Paralympic news) The silver medal of athlete Le Van Cong helped the Vietnamese disabled sports team rise to 21st place on the Tokyo Paralympic chart.
On the morning of August 26, the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation brought good news from the Tokyo 2021 Paralympic Games taking place in Japan. Athlete Le Van Cong excellently brought home a silver medal in the men’s under 49kg weightlifting category.
Athlete Van Cong celebrates the silver medal
Van Cong successfully pushed all 3 times, and reached the best weight of 173 kg, equal to the leader Omar Qarada (Jordan). However, the Vietnamese athlete accepted the silver medal because he was 0.1 kg heavier than his opponent. Anyway, this is still a very proud achievement when he overcame a shoulder injury and only returned to training in April of this year, as well as having to spray pain relievers when he entered the competition.
With Van Cong’s silver medal, the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation rose to 21st place on the medal table. We share this position with two disability sports teams from Hungary and Georgia. If only in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is ranked second only after Singapore. The island nation of lions is ranked 16th with 1 gold medal.
Vietnam ranked 19th on the medal list
In the leading group, the Australian disabled sports delegation is leading with 6 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals. Right behind is China with 5 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze and the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) with 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze. The host nation of disabled sportsmen, Japan, temporarily ranked 11th along with France and Poland when they both won 1 silver and 1 bronze.
