The Ho Chi Minh City Student Culture House is the only representative of Vietnam to be honored at the 35th WA Awards world architecture.
The WA Awards (World Architecture Community Award) is a global architectural – interior competition. The award is the recognition of the world architecture community for notable projects capable of inspiring contemporary architecture.
The Ho Chi Minh City Student Culture House is a gift from Thanh Doan and the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to students in the city, located in the village of National University of Ho Chi Minh City. The work is co-designed by GK Archi and Nihon Sekkei, in which architects are Nguyen Trung Kien, Shatoshi Shimizu. The design team includes architects Le Nguyen Huong Giang, Yuriko Nitto and Jumpei Shirai.
Completed in 2019, the work integrates many functions to serve activities from learning, entertainment, entertainment, sports, culture, and arts to healthcare for students. It has a cinema, 900-seat auditorium, large conference rooms, activity clubs, consulting clubs, libraries, traditional spaces, large living spaces, clothing spaces. sports, entertainment and multi-purpose spaces … to meet the changing trend through each appropriate period.
The work creates a symbol for the creative energy of the future young generation through the form of architecture using traditional lines in the context of modern urban areas. Promoting green factors, being environmentally friendly, designed to take advantage of natural energy, reduce dependence on traditional energy sources (hydroelectricity, thermal power …), and use efficiently. water resources, reducing operating costs but still ensuring comfort, reducing human impacts on the environment, and reducing climate change.

Established in 2006, the World Architecture Community Award takes place about 3-4 times a year to bring more space for the jury (architects, interior designers, representatives of architectural firms). The WA award consists of 3 categories: design projects, practically built projects (within the last 10 years) and projects by students and academics. Each category will have 10 + 5 + X winners; in which 10 is the number of prizes voted by honorary members and the winners of the previous time, 5 is the number of prizes voted by members of the community. X corresponds to special projects where the jury members want to highlight their creative aspects.
At the 35th prize just announced, the Ho Chi Minh City Student Cultural House project was honored in the Project category with 4 works: Mar Mediterraneo 34 Apartment Building (Mexico), house in Minohshinmachi ( Japan), Tianjin Zarsion Exhibition Center (China). With a score of 8.56, Student Cultural House is the work scored the highest by members of the community in this category.
