Munster – This wonderful news could save a life: Little Vadim (14 months) gets the injection, of which a single dose costs 2 million euros.
The drug that Vadim so desperately needs is called Zolgensma and it is the most expensive in the world. It helps with spinal muscular atrophy – a rare genetic defect. It breaks down Vadim’s muscles and is fatal.
The doctors at Münster University Hospital had decided: The little boy needs the injection – and urgently! “Zolgensma only needs to be injected once. Then the disease is stopped forever, ”explains lawyer Johannes Kaiser (43).
Actually, the drug should be paid for by Vadim’s health insurance company IKK classic. So it was decided in September by the State Social Court of North Rhine-Westphalia. But she preferred to sue the social court. A letter to the parents said: “If it is decided in this procedure that there is no entitlement to benefits from IKK classic for the coveted service, the costs must be reimbursed in full.”
There was mail again on Friday. From the till by email to the BILD reporter: “In the aftermath of your reporting on the case of little Vadim, I wanted to let you know that we have decided not to pursue the main proceedings any further. Therefore, the risk of a possible repayment, which was only hypothetical anyway, is now definitely excluded for our insured. “
