Hall – “The oil pipeline has been standing still since 9 a.m. this morning!” When the self-proclaimed climate activist Edmund Schulz (58) and his companion proudly announce their feat on Thursday, the police have already arrested the two.
Schulz, who comes from Lower Saxony, belongs to the radical environmentalist alliance “Last Generation”. With his accomplice from Schleswig-Holstein, he came to Fienstedt in the Saale district to save the world – at a pumping station of the Leuna oil refinery!
They told the BILD reporters frankly: “We climbed over the fence and chained ourselves to the locked oil tap. In view of the climate emergency, we previously activated the emergency shut-off systems in two places and stopped the oil flow.”
The officers alerted the Schochwitz fire brigade in order to free both of them from their chains without harm. Schulz and his supporter are now threatened with criminal proceedings for trespassing.
They accept that, explaining: “We are in a climate emergency. Further fossil infrastructure is tantamount to a declaration of war on the Pacific island nations.”
It is not yet clear how much damage was caused by her TAP-CLOSE action. Police spokesman Michael Ripke: “Our colleagues secured evidence on site. The investigations are ongoing, including the question of possible delivery failures!”
The oil pipeline has been working again since Friday. The operator wants to claim the damage caused under civil law from the environmental activists.
