Quick training, missing controls, gold digger mood! – That’s why rapid tests make you rich quickly

The amusement arcade becomes a corona center, the hairdresser becomes a test station.

All over Germany there are booming places that offer free corona rapid tests. There are more than 8,700 in North Rhine-Westphalia, over 1,400 in Berlin. For many hosts the last resort, for some crooks a gold mine …

The federal government is alarmed! Health Minister Jens Spahn (41, CDU), currently in South Africa, told BILD via his spokesman that manipulated invoices for rapid tests were “not acceptable”.

The obscure business of rapid tests!

For each rapid test there is 12 euros, plus 6 euros per test kit from the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. This accounts with the Federal Social Security Office (BAS). From April 1 to May 15, the BAS paid around 659 million euros for rapid tests. 275 million for the test kits, the rest as lump sums for testing.

BUT: Most test centers only have to provide numbers, not the names of those tested!

“For data protection reasons, we have to delete the data of all those tested every day. Later on, nobody can find out who we tested, ”a Berlin operator told BILD.

This encourages fraud: “Some people just take the names of friends and relatives once a day without actually testing. Nobody checks that. “

The Berlin Senate Administration said: “Basically, the operators run the test sites on their own responsibility. If we become aware of the suspicion of criminal activity, we inform the responsible authorities. “

In North Rhine-Westphalia alone, 2.37 million tests were billed this week. “This inflation is incredible,” said Dr. Andreas Bobrowski (65), Chairman of the Professional Association of German Laboratory Doctors (BDL).

“These test centers are built commercially. It is actually about a medical activity. Occupational safety, hygiene and good material are sometimes severely neglected. “

The hurdles to opening a test station are low. In Berlin, all you have to do is submit a sketch of the test site and complete an online seminar (20 euros at the Johannitern, takes one hour).

“The only competence for a test center is to be able to hang up a sign outside,” says the Berlin medical officer Patrick Larscheid. “That this system invites fraud is certainly not to say too much. If you billed 200 tests a day, then you have a quarterly gross turnover of 324,000 euros. “

FDP health expert Christine Aschenberg-Dugnus (61) complains: “Unchecked tax money is wasted here!”

Jens Spahn’s spokesman announced that they would “examine stronger control mechanisms”. In addition, the ministry is planning to “lower the remuneration”.

And how do I recognize a reputable test center? Labor doctor boss Bobrowski: “I recommend choosing a center that is operated by a doctor or pharmacist.”
