Plaidt (Rhineland-Palatinate): Tire engraver flattens 402 cars on Christmas Eve

All tires flat. Ironically on Christmas Eve, when the trips to the relatives are due on Christmas days. This Christmas disaster brought a crazy tire-maker to more than 400 car owners in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Plaidt (Rhineland-Palatinate, Mayen-Koblenz district) – Big mess at Christmas! The police searched for a lousy tire blower for three hours and came across a 50-year-old who was known to the police.

A witness reported to the police on Christmas Eve that a man was tampering with cars. At 3:30 a.m., the police caught the suspect (50) in the act. When the officers arrived, some tires were still out of air, the Andernach police told the SWR.

But the 50-year-old denies the allegations, although he had rubber gloves, a balaclava and nail scissors with him when he was arrested. There were traces of rubber on the scissors.

According to the current status, the tires of 402 vehicles were stabbed. The police assume, however, that he could have stabbed at least 1500 tires on vehicles in Plaidt.

She estimates the damage so far at around 150,000 euros. All four tires are affected on most vehicles. The public prosecutor’s office is now investigating the 50-year-old for property damage. The motive for this is completely unclear.

For those affected, this is not just financial damage. Many now have to consider how they can visit their relatives without a car over the holidays – or do without it altogether. The lousy tire cutter really messed up the party for them and their families!

The police asked witnesses and injured parties to report.
