Pininfarina designers are all smiles at the end of September, presenting one of their latest creations, the VFe35 from Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast intended for European roads next year. At the headquarters of the famous Italian automotive design studio, in Cambiano near Turin, the luxurious Ferraris and Alfa Romeos that take pride of place in the reception hall recall the prestigious past of the favorite Peugeot and Agnelli designer.
It is difficult, while admiring the elegance of these iconic cars, illuminated by a radiant sun, to imagine that the company has just gone through a serious crisis and a severe restructuring. “We were strongly affected by the slowdown in the automotive markets that began in 2019, which has led manufacturers to launch fewer new models,” explains Pininfarina CEO Silvio Pietro Angori. “And this situation was then greatly aggravated by the Covid-19”.
