Almost five years after the devastating truck attack in Nice, southern France, which left 86 dead, an alleged accomplice of the assassin was arrested in Italy.
The 28-year-old Albanian man is suspected of being an accomplice, the Italian police said on Thursday night. Italian media report that he should have sold weapons to the assassin. The person wanted with a European arrest warrant was arrested near the city of Caserta north of Naples.
▶ ︎ On July 14, 2016, the French national holiday, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel drove a truck into a crowd on the Promenade des Anglais boulevard. Ultimately, there were 86 fatalities and more than 200 people were injured. Three Germans were among the dead in the attack.
The assassin was shot after the fact. The terrorist militia ISIS claimed the act for itself.
The southern French port city was only the scene of a suspected Islamist attack at the end of October: an attacker killed three people in a church and was then seriously injured by police officers. Well over 250 people have died in attacks in France in recent years.
