Big blow against organized crime!
Madrid – One of the most wanted Mafia bosses of the Calabrian ‘Ndrangheta has been arrested. Officials hired the Italian Domenico Paviglianiti in a working-class neighborhood in Madrid. The Spanish police announced on Thursday.
The arrest was achieved during a joint operation with the Italian police. The officers found a forged Portuguese ID and six cell phones with almost 6,000 euros in cash.
Paviglianiti was responsible for Mafia business in northern Italy and South America. Italian media described him as the “boss of the bosses”. Among other things, he is said to have committed murders and smuggled drugs on a large scale in the 1980s and 1990s.
Paviglianiti was arrested in Spain as early as 1996 and three years later extradited to Italy, where he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Thanks to his lawyers, the mafioso was released early after 20 years, but an Italian court revoked his early release in 2019. As a result, an international arrest warrant was issued again.
The ‘Ndrangheta is now considered to be the most powerful mafia organization in Italy. She does not shy away from murder or extortion and is behind drug trafficking, money laundering and illegal waste disposal.
