Cologne – When looking for drug hiding spots, the smugglers’ imagination knows no bounds.
“Heroin sewn into handbags, crystal meth placed in hairpins or hashish in a chessboard are just a few of the creative but unsuccessful hiding places,” said Jens Ahland, spokesman for the main customs office in Cologne, on Monday.
In the past eight weeks alone, drugs with a total sales value of more than 1.6 million euros have been seized at Cologne / Bonn Airport. Customs now find drugs in parcels almost every day, says Ahland: “In addition to smuggling on the street and in trains, this is the classic for us.”
More than 102 kilograms of marijuana, almost ten kilograms of hashish, almost 22,700 ecstasy tablets, around 3.6 kilograms of crystal meth, almost two kilograms of another designer drug and 300 grams of heroin were reportedly withdrawn from circulation at the airport during the period .
