Lockdown parties at the seat of government – Every Friday: Downing Street office booze

London (England) – While the rest of the kingdom had to obediently follow the strict corona distance rules between autumn 2020 and spring 2021, there were bangs at No. 10 regularly the corks!

Embarrassing: In the London seat of government, the employees didn’t give a damn about the pandemic regulations. Because: At the end of the week they celebrated their “Wine Fridays” – apparently with the knowledge and approval of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Johnson himself is said to have urged employees to “let off steam” after a hard week’s work, as the “Mirror” writes. The relaxed rounds with a glass of wine or a beer after work are a tradition in Downing Street. At that time, however, the country was in lockdown and strict contact restrictions applied. Meetings of more than two people from different households indoors were not allowed, except for “necessary work purposes”. Here, however, it was about banal office suffocation.

The “Wine Friday” was very popular with the staff. As the “Mirror” found out, in December 2020 some bought a fridge for 142 British pounds (around 170 euros) to keep white wine, Prosecco and beer cool. There should be room for 34 bottles in the cabinet. On Fridays, assistants are said to have taken a suitcase to the nearest supermarket to get supplies.

It was only found out this week that on the evening before Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021, there was said to be a lot of drinking at the seat of government. Boris Johnson apologized to the Queen for this. On Friday, the Premier became the target of ridicule. With Johnson masks on their faces, a group “partyed” in front of No. 10
