Live Indian Wells Day 2: Halep and Swiatek step forward, Raducanu loses in shock

(Tennis news) The two seeds of the women’s singles, Halep and Swiatek, did not have much trouble overcoming their opponents in the second round.

Azarenka struggled to continue

Victoria Azarenka advanced after the opponent of veteran Belarusian Magda Linette dropped out in the second set. In the first set, Azarenka won 7-5. Linette broke the senior’s game twice, but in return Azarenka also won 3 break points. In the second set, when the score was 3-0 in favor of Azarenka, Linette was injured and had to give up.

Halep and Swiatek move forward easily

Video of the Halep – Kostyuk match:

Simona Halep is the 11th seed in the women’s singles. In the second round, she faced rival Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine. With much more strength, the Romanian player won after 2 sets with the scores 7-6, 6-1 and won tickets to the 3rd round.

Meanwhile, the second seed of the tournament, Iga Swiatek of Poland, had an even easier match against Petra Martic. It only took 71 minutes of play, Swiatek defeated the opponent 6-1, 6-3 to win the right to advance.

4th seed Elina Svitolina also easily overcame Tereza Martincova 6-2, 7-5 in this round.

Some surprises in the men’s singles

In the men’s content, a few small surprises took place in the second round. Japanese tennis player Yoshihito Nishioka defeated Federico Delbonis 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 to win the right to advance.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Tabillo also unexpectedly overcame host Denis Kudla 6-1, 7-6 and won tickets to the second round.

In other matches, tall South African Kevin Anderson beat Jordan Thompson 7-5, 6-2. Meanwhile Albert Ramos-Vinolas beat Lorenzo Musetti 6-1, 6-3

Andy Murray – Adrian Mannarino: Around 9:30 a.m., October 9, the first round of men’s singles

This promises to be an easy match for Andy Murray because Mannarino has not played in recent months and is in poor form. Besides, this player’s style of play is not suitable for slow-moving surfaces, because Mannarino’s mid-range shots are only suitable for high-slip surfaces.

Andy Murray

Murray is still finding his form and has been playing consistently in recent weeks, aiming to play as much as he can until the end of the year. If played aggressively with forehands, this promises to be a comfortable victory for Andy Murray although Mannarino may force Murray to run more with cross-court runs.

Emma Raducanu – Aliaksandra Sasnovich: Around 8am, 9/10, the second round of women’s singles

This will be Raducanu’s first match since a historic victory at the US Open, and she will only have to face an unremarkable opponent. Sasnovich does not have consistent accuracy when hitting from the end of the field and the power is not enough to threaten Raducanu.

The British tennis player is still in the process of winning and it is likely that her journey in this tournament will have certain bumps due to the age factor. But the opponent is not really strong, Raducanu’s way of playing is more about forcing the opponent to make mistakes, so she can think about round 3.

Simona Halep – Marta Kostyuk: Around 2:30, 9/10 women’s second round

The current Simona Halep is fresh, she’s already outside the top 15 in the world and is married. Unfortunately she also had to deal with injuries, she didn’t get knocked out early in New York but still lost pretty easily to Svitolina.

Kostyuk is still a rising teen player in this tournament, she just won an impressive victory over senior Zhang Shuai but Halep is still at a higher level. Halep e won’t go far in this tournament but this is not the time to stop.
