Leipzig – Two weeks after a partially chaotic “lateral thinking” demo, there should be again protests against the corona policy in Leipzig. The conclusion of the police on Saturday was much more positive than at the event on November 7th. This was partly due to a significantly lower number of participants and a larger police presence.
“As things stand so far, there have been two arrests and a total of 18 crimes. The offenses included ten bodily harm and three breaches of the peace. Because of the attack on a journalist an official complaint was made against unknown persons, ”said a police spokeswoman on Saturday evening.
A total of 113 administrative offense reports were made for violating the Saxon Corona Protection Ordinance and 44 dismissals were issued. One officer was slightly injured in action.
The Leipzig police secured the day with initially eight registered meetings in Leipzig with the support of the Saxon riot police, forces from the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg, Bremen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein as well as the federal police. The police leadership did not say how many officers were in total.
Corona demo canceled at short notice
At the “Life after Corona” gathering, the authorized number of 500 people was reached around 3 p.m., so the assembly authorities decided that further participants would be denied entry. But then it was canceled at short notice by the applicant himself.
According to the police, the background was the applicant’s “incomplete mask release certificate”. This did not even have a doctor’s stamp and was not accepted by the assembly authorities. Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung (SPD): “That was an adventurous letter.”
Anyone wishing to attend the meeting was then asked to leave the area peacefully. In the further course of the event, the original participants and participants in the counter-protests were distributed in the downtown area (Markt / Große Fleischergasse), on Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz and on the west side of the main station. Attempts were made to register spontaneous demonstrations at all three locations. These were not approved.
A police spokeswoman: “In the area of the market, the departure was delayed until the evening hours, as a meeting of different groups had to be prevented. This made it necessary for the police officers to use simple physical force. There have also been isolated attacks on police officers in the form of stones. “
According to the organizers, up to 4,000 people were present at the protests by opponents of the corona measures. The campaign network “Leipzig takes a seat” called for rallies at three central locations in the city. “Great atmosphere, peaceful and responsible protest from up to 4,000 participants during the day,” the network announced on Twitter in the evening at the end of the event.
