Another bloody attack in the USA!
At least one person has been killed in a gunshot at a church in California. Four other people were seriously injured at the church near Los Angeles and one person was slightly injured, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said on Twitter on Sunday.
The police reportedly received an emergency call from the Presbyterian Church in the city of Laguna Woods at 1:26 p.m. (local time). Rescue workers rushed to the church to treat the injured. “One victim died at the scene,” the sheriff’s office said. All victims are adults.
Rapid investigation success: A suspect was arrested around 70 kilometers south of Los Angeles. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the police also seized a firearm.
According to the newspaper, a Taiwanese congregation (around 30 people) was in the church at the time of the attack. A large contingent of police is on site – the FBI is also investigating. The motive for the crime is still unclear.
California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office said it is working with local authorities to monitor the situation. “No one should be afraid to go to worship. Our thoughts are with the victims,” the office said.
Democratic Congresswoman Katie Porter, the Orange County seat in the House of Representatives in Washington, spoke of “shattering and disturbing news, especially less than a day after the Buffalo shooting.” She added, “This shouldn’t be our new normal.”
Ten people were killed and three others injured in an apparently racially motivated firearm attack on a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday.
An 18-year-old white man, who was broadcasting his act live on the internet, fired a rifle in front of and inside the Buffalo city store. Most of the victims were African American. The perpetrator was arrested and charged with murder.
