In mid-May, Truong Thi Kim Tuyen won a place at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo Japan after excelling in the women’s under 49 kg event at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Jordan. On the night of June 17 at the 2021 Asian Taekwondo Championships taking place in Lebanon, Kim Tuyen continued to bring good news to Vietnamese sports.
As the top boxer in the 49 kg event, Truong Thi Kim Tuyen excelled to go to the final match. In the final, Kim Tuyen and her opponent Madinabonu Mannopova, Uzbekistan, competed intensely and Vietnamese boxers won the final with a tight score of 25-24 to bring home the Asian gold medal.

This is also the first Asian gold medal of Taekwondo Vietnam at the 2021 Asian Championships. Before that, another Vietnamese athlete, Tran Thi Anh Tuyet, brought home Taekwondo a silver medal in the 57 kg weight class. Thus, after 2 days of competition, with only 3 athletes, we brought home 2 precious medals.
The 2021 Asian Taekwondo Championship brings together 337 athletes from 28 countries. Due to the impact of the epidemic, only competitive athletes will go to the gymnasium, boxers who participate in the right content, will perform and score online (online).
Bringing to the tournament 3 boxers, but we won a medal, thereby temporarily standing in the top 5 strongest teams out of 28 participating countries. With the gold medal in Taekwondo in Lebanon, boxer Truong Thi Kim Tuyen has an impressive “running” performance for the Tokyo Olympics scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8 in Japan.
