Kamen (NRW) – After a serious accident with several cars and trucks, the A1 near Kamen in the direction of Cologne was blocked for hours on Thursday afternoon. A driver (40) was killed.
A police spokeswoman said several vehicles drove into each other on the motorway between the Kamener Kreuz and the Kamen-Zentrum exit.
Several people were trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued with special equipment. Two people (27, 29) were critically injured, but should be over the mountain, the police said on Friday morning.
According to initial findings, traffic was jammed on the lane in the direction of Cologne. A truck driver (26) from Slovenia apparently did not recognize this in time. He drove into a car with a trailer, which hit the man in front of him.
“Due to the force of the collision, the car in front was pushed under another tractor unit. The occupants of the cars were trapped and had to be rescued by the fire brigade, ”said the police.
The lane in the direction of Cologne was closed, the traffic diverted. Later in the evening, the police announced that the left lane had been released again.
Because of onlookers, there are also obstructions on the opposite lane. Road users are asked to drive around the scene of the accident as far as possible.
