The pretty melody is repeated, heady, Wednesday July 7 in the Toyota plant in Onnaing, near Valenciennes (North). This is the signal that an operator needs help on the assembly line, which is still being run in: recognizable by their orange vests, around 70 people from the support teams take turns in the workshop to answer questions. Because the very first copies of the new Yaris Cross SUV rolled off the lines just a few days ago, Monday at 5.30 p.m.

Since then, the plant has produced two vehicles on a single line, the Yaris 4 and the Yaris Cross – both in petrol or hybrid versions. A real challenge in an already very compact plant, which required major adaptation efforts. And this, even if the two vehicles, produced on the same technical platform (called “TNGA”, for Toyota New Global Architecture), have 50% of common parts.
