How often should the refrigerator be cleaned?

It’s common to clean out the fridge when it’s empty or too dirty, but home appliance experts recommend doing it at least once every three months.

Mr. Vijay Bhadwaj, director of Beko home appliance company, Turkey, said: “It is recommended to clean the refrigerator regularly. This will help prevent the formation of unwanted odors.”

According to GQ, although cleaning can happen whenever you need it, a deep cleaning of the refrigerator should be done every three to four months. The best time to clean out your cupboards is before you go shopping for new food. This process will be conducted comprehensively and thoroughly. The general cleaning of the cabinet needs to be done quickly (under 2 hours), so that the quality of the food is not affected.

You can transfer food to an extra refrigerator (if available) or a thermos bag to preserve food. During this time, you can also check all the items in the cabinet to see what to throw away, what to put back after the cleaning operation is complete. Use a marker to write down foods that are safe to use again as well as those that should be thrown away.

After the step of removing things from the cabinet, you disconnect the power, open all the drawers, take all the drawers, shelves… out of the cabinet, leaving a separate place to clean.

The trick for this step is to arrange the drawers, shelves … you take out in order from small to large, arrange them in separate clusters. This makes it easy to put them back together after cleaning without spending time assembling and splicing. Wash each dish with a solution of soapy water and baking soda.

Initially, you clean up garbage, food debris (if any) left in the recesses, slots… cabinets. Then, mix a cleaning solution consisting of a mixture of hot water, a few drops of dishwashing liquid, add a few drops of bleach if the cabinet shows signs of dirty tanks, water leaking from food. Use a soft cloth to absorb the solution and wipe the cabinet until it is clean. You can put the solution in a spray bottle, spray it into hard-to-reach crevices and crevices and the rubber seals on the cabinet doors and wipe them clean. Note, do not use toxic or corrosive cleaning products to clean the cabinet.

Finally, use a soft cloth to wipe until the inside of the cabinet is dry. Install the shelves and shelves in the cabinet, plug in the power and leave the refrigerator for about an hour, then put the food back in.

The Spruce site recommends placing a box of baking soda in the refrigerator to prevent unpleasant odors.

According to the housewife advice site Molly Maid, in addition to cleaning the inside of the cabinet, every six months, you should vacuum everything that is entangled in the grille located behind the cabinet.
