Did the darkest truth come to light in this game?
In England, the student Tiernan Darnton (21) is on trial for the murder of his grandmother. He is said to have confessed to the crime while playing with friends. At first they thought it was a bad joke!
Tiernan Darnton, 20, shared his “darkest secret” according to “The Sun” during a game of “Truth or Dare” with two friends – just a few weeks after the funeral of his grandmother Mary Gregory († 94). He revealed to friends: “I have a secret that I haven’t told anyone. I might have killed someone. ”
During the trial, prosecutor David McLachlan stated that when asked by his friends, the defendant admitted to having killed his grandmother – allegedly so that the dementia woman would not suffer any more. He is said to have persuaded both of them not to reveal anything.
The retiree died in May 2018 after a fire in her bungalow in Heysham, Lancashire. Mary was a heavy smoker. According to initial investigations, it initially looked as if the old lady’s death had been a tragic accident.
Until a comment by Darnton during a therapy session on May 9, 2019.
In the conversation Darnton spoke of a friend who “could put him in jail because he knows something”. The counselor then ended the session by saying to him, “I’m not sure what you are saying, but I think you are telling me that you killed someone.” Darnton nodded his head.
In another session a week later, he is said to have reported further details of the crime to defendants, for example that he had lit the curtains in Mary Gregory’s house with a lighter.
In May 2019, Darnton was arrested and his cell phone and computer confiscated. The investigation of the devices revealed a series of Google searches in June 2018, according to reports from the UK media, including “Desperate Murderers”, “I am a murderer” and “I am a monster going to hell”. In August 2018 he googled, among other things, “I feel guilty for releasing a loved one from their misery”.
Darnton denies the act in court. The reason for his statements during the game “truth or dare” are his “psychological problems” and in particular his “attention-seeking behavior at this time”. Darnton testified that he wanted to shock his “edgy” friends.
He thought they’d like him more then.
