Neunkirchen – It is scheduled to open at the beginning of 2022, and the foundation stone for the Globus market (7800 square meters) has now been laid on the hut area.
After more than 30 years a location in Saarland again: more than 50 million euros are being invested. 250 jobs and apprenticeships are to be created.
Globus originally wanted to build in Betzenhölle. But nature conservation thwarted the bill. For the current location, the gasometer had to give way, which shaped the silhouette of Neunkirchen for half a century with its inscription “Neunkircher Stahl”.
Globus boss Mathias Bruch promised to take the range of shops in the area into consideration. A Globus store never comes off the rack, “but is always a tailor-made suit”. A location in Saarland had been sought for ten years.
Bruch: “The Saarland is our home. That is why we are particularly pleased to finally become a part of Neunkirchen too. “
MP Tobias Hans (CDU), who was born in Neunkirchen, described the hut area as the “entrance door of the city of Neunkirchen”.
Due to a corona case in the family, Mayor Jörg Aumann (SPD) had to cancel his participation in the laying of the foundation stone at short notice. He is in quarantine. A test was negative for him.
