Formula 1: the tight budget of the French Grand Prix at Le Castellet

After the cancellation of the 2020 edition due to a health crisis and calendar incompatibility, Formula 1 returns to the Castellet circuit this weekend for the traditional French GP, the seventh round of the world championship. But the scars of the pandemic are far from being erased: while the entire paddock (drivers, technicians, team managers, etc.) will be cautiously confined in a very closed health bubble, on the order of the International Automobile Federation ( FIA), spectators will be sparse in the stands.

The format chosen for this Grand Prix indeed provides for a maximum capacity of 15,000 spectators per day, from free practice from Friday to the race on Sunday, for a total capacity of 65,000 places on the Var circuit. The public will even be divided into three separate stands with 5,000 seats, hermetic areas each with their own parking and their own access, the general enclosure of the circuit being closed for the occasion.
