Baller training for the Müller record!
Shortly after 9 a.m. Robert Lewandowski (32) drives up in his green Bentley. Bayern actually have Sunday to Tuesday off, with team training on the pitch only on Wednesday. But “Lewy” wants to be in top shape for the season finale to set Gerd Müller’s historic 40-goal record of the season in the three remaining games against Gladbach (May 8), Freiburg (May 15) and Augsburg (May 22) To crack 1971/72. The Polish national player is currently missing four goals (he recently missed four league games due to a ligament stretch on his right knee).
Instead of putting your feet up, Lewandowksi does an extra shift! Together with Serge Gnabry (26), who reported back to Mainz after a 14-day corona quarantine, and storm talent Malik Tillman (18 / cruciate ligament tear in October), the attacker practiced for an hour: run-ups, sprints, long passes, headers, Crosses – and of course shots on goal – were on the program. Noticeable: Lewandowski seemed very motivated during the unit. No wonder. Bayern’s super striker wants to set the record.
Niklas Süle (26 / torn muscle fiber in the thigh) and Douglas Costa (30 / hairline tear in the right metatarsus) also trained together – albeit a little more moderately. The duo jogged together around the training grounds, doing sprints and passing exercises.
Corentin Tolisso (26 / torn muscle tendon in the left thigh) completed an easy running session with rehabilitation coach Thomas Wilhelmi.
