According to the Brazilian military police, a team patrolled the neighborhood “when they heard gunfire”. The shooting is being investigated by the police. According to the newspaper “O Globo”, family members said the police officers shot several times.

In 2020, 22 children under the age of twelve were injured in an exchange of fire in the Rio de Janeiro region, eight of them fatally, as the organization Fogo Cruzado announced.

“That is also the fault of the rulers, who say that all criminals must be killed and give the police a free hand,” said the girls’ grandmother of the newspaper “O Globo”. Most favela residents are simple workers.
