Sinsheim – A 21-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a tractor in Dühren (Rhein-Neckar district).
The motorcycle burned as a result of the impact and the young man died because of his serious injuries at the scene of the accident, the police said. Federal highway 292 was closed in both directions for about three and a half hours on Monday evening.
Eyewitnesses report that the two-wheeler was traveling far too fast and dared to overtake several vehicles. As it reeved, it hit the rear of a tractor with undiminished speed. A burst fuel tank set the motorcycle on fire – according to the emergency doctor, the motorcyclist was dead on the spot.
The tractor driver and other first aiders tried to fight the fire with powder extinguishers carried on board. They had to be looked after by pastors afterwards. The accident itself occurred about 300 meters outside the town, before the Michelfeld junction.
The completely smashed two-wheeler of the deceased, who comes from the neighboring village, had a seasonal registration until the end of the month. The tractor driver is physically unharmed. According to the emergency services, he was out and about with the lights switched on.
Sinsheim’s overall fire brigade commander Michael Hess speaks of a stressful mission. “The road was littered with rubble, there is almost nothing left on the motorcycle.” The tractor and motorcycle were confiscated by the Heidelberg public prosecutor, the investigations are ongoing.
