Dozens of planes affected: drone anchors paralyze air traffic

Frankfurt – Drone alarm at Germany’s largest airport! On Saturday evening, several drone sightings blocked take-offs and landings.

The first drone was reported by a hunter near runway 18 West. The last sighting was in the area of ​​Bundesstrasse 43. Between 8:15 p.m. and 11 p.m. the federal and state police were on duty for reconnaissance, manhunt and danger prevention. However, the officers were unable to catch either drones or drone pilots. The investigators suspect a targeted disruptive action.

Because of the incidents, two flights were canceled and a cargo flight was temporarily diverted to Cologne. Two flights had to land late, 23 flights were allowed to take off after 11 p.m. with an exemption from the night flight ban – the last plane took off at 11:59 p.m.
