Munich – The city will NOT ban fireworks on New Years Eve.
The ÖDP had demanded this for the entire city area. According to a resolution proposed by the district administration department, this is not legally possible.
A fireworks-free zone at the zoo was also not feasible – the SPD had demanded.
Since 2019, there has been a complete ban on fireworks in the pedestrian zone. at Marienplatz and Viktualienmarkt, plus a ban on firecrackers within the Mittlerer Ring.
▶ ︎ SPD City Councilor Lena Odell (36) on BILD: “It’s a shame that animal welfare is argued so formally and that no restricted zone is possible around the zoo. It is obvious that animals suffer particularly from the gunfire on New Year’s Eve. “
Odell continues: “We therefore hope that people will be considerate so that, despite everything, they keep as far away as possible from places where New Year’s Eve crackers are particularly dangerous. Actually, ‘Live and let live’ always works very well here in Bavaria, even without prohibitions. “
