Alegna Osorio Mayari, the female hammer thrower who was the hope of winning the Olympic medal of the Cuban sports team, has died after a tragic accident. The dreaded injury came to Mayari in April, when she was focusing on training for the Tokyo Olympics held in Japan.

When colleagues were present in Tokyo, Mayari’s injury became too severe. “Life and death”, the hammer that made Mayari’s name was what caused her to suffer severe injuries and died on Tuesday (July 27).
“Our condolences go out to the Mayari family,” said Osvaldo Vento, president of the Cuban National Academy of Sports. Mayari, Gwen Berry wrote: “Deep condolences to the Mayari family, great loss.”
Cuban media outlet Noticias Cuba described Alegna Osorio Mayari as one of the promising young talents of the country’s athletics.
Mayari won bronze at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in the women’s hammer throw. The 19-year-old girl also won another bronze at the championship in the US 2 years ago.
If there is no injury, Mayari will be among the 20 Cuban athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics 2021. Currently, after 7 days of competition, the Cuban team is temporarily winning a bronze medal.
