Police lead a man with a gold chain over a black sweater in handcuffs. Minutes earlier, at the wheel of a Mercedes, he had five officers injured.
Berlin – The end of a chase in the middle of the capital. But then a policeman also reports a colleague in office for assault. He is said to have acted too hard on the escape driver during the operation.
A police spokeswoman: “During the arrest, there were alleged unlawful use of physical violence.”
It started on Tuesday evening shortly before 7:20 p.m. in Hermannstrasse (Berlin-Neukölln). Police notice the risky driving style of a rental Mercedes with a Munich license plate. Again and again the driver changes lanes, endangering the traffic!
When the officers want to stop the car, the driver accelerates and sped away. But he doesn’t get far: a few hundred meters further, a civil patrol called to block his way.
There is a crash! Because the patrol car behind the getaway car cannot brake in time, there is a second impact. Five police officers are injured so badly by the pile-up that they have to stop their work.
But that’s not all: the two speeders in the Mercedes try to escape on foot. The officers can catch the driver, the passenger escapes.
The police found drugs and a knife on the detainee – a machete was in his car. In addition, the speeder did not have a driver’s license!
Could it be a drug taxi? The police did not want to confirm this upon request.
Benjamin Jendro, spokesman for the police union, on BILD: “It is precisely these deployment scenarios that reveal the enormous risk of this profession. An initially harmless measure can escalate within a split second and end with five injured colleagues. “
