Bischofswiesen – A woman (50) died on a climbing tour in the Berchtesgaden Alps.
The mountaineer climbed with her husband (58) and a 59-year-old companion on Thursday morning at the Vorderen Rotofen, as the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) announced in the evening.
When she was standing unsecured in a traverse, one of the leading – and secured – companions fell into the rope. The woman also fell and fell 80 meters into the depth. Why it fell is still unclear.
An emergency doctor roped down from the rescue helicopter could only determine the death of the 50-year-old.
According to the BRK, the person who fell into the rope suffered bruises; the belayer sustained an injury from rope friction on the hand Both were brought into the valley by helicopter, looked after by a crisis intervention team and finally driven to the clinic in Bad Reichenhall by ambulance.
