Bay of Lübeck model region: tourism offers reopened

Scharbeutz (Schleswig-Holstein) – The people in the north have been waiting for a long time!

The tourism offers in the inner Bay of Lübeck have been open to guests again since Saturday. This is the start of a tourism project that enables restaurant visits and overnight stays in the towns of Timmendorfer Strand, Scharbeutz, Sierksdorf and Neustadt.

At the start on Saturday the number of visitors was still manageable, but the demand is already huge. A spokeswoman for Timmendorfer Strand Tourismus GmbH confirmed that overnight accommodations are almost all fully booked.

At the weekend, the Lübeck security forces in particular show a strong presence. They control compliance with the hygiene regulations.

Due to the sunny weather, restaurateurs expect high numbers of visitors, especially on Sundays. Information from the German Weather Service (DWD) predict temperatures of up to 26 degrees.

North Frisia has also reopened its doors to tourists as a model region. Since May 1st, the North Sea island of Sylt has been welcoming guests from all over Germany. The model project has been running in the Schleiregion and in Eckernförde since mid-April. The North Sea resort of Büsum is scheduled to follow on May 10th.
