Bautzen – At the birthday party of a teenager (17) in Bautzen, a balcony collapsed on Thursday evening while eleven people were standing on it. Nine of them – including a four-year-old boy – were injured, some seriously!
According to the police, the group had been partying outside on the third floor of the apartment building at around 8 p.m. when the wooden floor suddenly broke through for an unexplained cause and crashed onto the balcony on the second floor.
Eight ambulances and several patrol cars were in action, and the fire brigade immediately rushed to the scene of the accident to rescue the injured.
According to the police, eight people between the ages of four and 61 were slightly injured, and a 50-year-old man had to be taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“The balcony was only added to the apartment building afterwards,” said a police spokesman in the evening. “How it came to this collapse must now be determined.”
Forensic technicians and statisticians are to examine the rubble on Friday.
