After three years at half mast, the Chinese car market could finally find a positive slope next year. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), sales of light vehicles will reach 27.5 million units in 2022, 5.4% more than this year. A jump mainly linked to sales of passenger cars (+ 8% expected in 2022, to 23 million units), which will offset the decline in light commercial vehicles (- 6%, to 4.5 million).
Approaching 29 million registrations in 2017, the world’s largest auto market began to decline in 2018 for the first time since at least 1990. The slowdown in growth in the country and the end of support measures in the purchase of small vehicles, in particular, had caused a drop in sales of new cars of 2.8%, which then amplified in 2019, with a drop of 8%.
