Good news for the Renault plant in Dieppe (Seine-Maritime). The site, endangered by the restructuring of the group, will produce the next electric model of the Alpine brand – an electric SUV. A relief for the few hundred employees accustomed to producing cars by hand or almost.

“There was doubt about the future of this plant a few years ago and today, thanks to the work carried out by the Renault teams […]we will be able to really ensure the future of this factory, ”explained Jean-Dominique Senard, the president of the automotive group, this Friday morning on France Inter.

Relaunched with great fanfare six years ago by Carlos Ghosn, the legendary brand is currently limited to a model that has passed its sales peak, the A110. The berlinetta sold 2,659 copies last year, a jump of 74% compared to 2020. But the brand is below the 2019 vintage, when sales flirted with the 5,000 unit mark. The brand, which gave its name to the group’s Formula 1 team, has three electric cars in its boxes, including this SUV.

Renault and its allies, Nissan and Mitsubishi presented Thursday a vast joint plan which provides 23 billion euros of investment in the electrification of their vehicles over the next five years. The group’s managing director, Luca de Meo, intends to make Alpine a 100% electric sports brand.
