37 weeks pregnant mother overcomes Covid-19 – VnExpress

Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong (Hanoi) was infected with Covid-19 at 37 weeks of pregnancy but soon overcame her fear to thoroughly treat the symptoms from the early days.

I currently live in Lac Trung Street, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi with my parents, 3-year-old son and husband. At the time of Covid-19 infection, I was 37 weeks pregnant, and at the same time, the epidemic situation in Hai Ba Trung district was very stressful.

I don’t know where the source of the infection comes from because I rarely leave the house every day. But on December 21, 2021, I began to see in people unusual. Initial symptoms are fatigue, lightheadedness and chills. Suspecting that I was infected with Sars-CoV-2, I asked my husband to buy a quick test strip to try, unexpectedly it got 2 lines. At that moment, I was confused and scared because I had small children at home, elderly parents, and myself in the last weeks of pregnancy. But immediately, I calmed down to think about what to do next. Fortunately, the parents, husband and child were all negative.

Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong used to feel that she had Covid-19 like an insurmountable nightmare.

Immediately, I quarantined myself in my room. In the evening of the same day, I started to have a fever of 38.5 degrees, the highest temperature was 38.7 degrees. Initially, I used Panadol to relieve pain, reduce fever. 4-6 hours later, the temperature is up, I continue to take Efferalgan. After two times of using antipyretic drugs, on December 22, 2021, the time of the fever gradually relaxed, during the day the temperature was not high and I completely stopped the fever on the morning of December 23, 2021.

In the first 2 days, I had pain around the abdomen (pregnancy area), body pain (maybe due to lying down a lot). But because I see that the child is still pedaling normally, I feel reassured. On December 23, 2021, after the fever was gone, I discovered that I had lost my sense of smell, my taste was still normal and I did not have any other symptoms.

To reduce symptoms as well as help the body fight the virus, I actively steamed with garlic and flushed, 4-5 times a day, 3-4 hours apart each time. Besides, it is also very important to provide the body with nutrients and vitamins to increase resistance. One day, I drink 2-3 cups of orange juice, coconut water and continuously drink warm water as well as take a multivitamin supplement, gargle with salt water and spray sea salt into the nose regularly. Regarding the diet, because I don’t lose my taste, I still eat normally, full of protein, starch, vegetables…

I stayed at home until December 24, 2021, then I was put in an isolation ward until January 1, 2022, before returning home. 8 days in the hospital, I still actively steam 3 times a day, eat well and take a full multivitamin supplement, gargle, spray the nose like at home. Every morning, the doctors and nurses will ask the patient once, what symptoms F0 have, they will be given medicine to treat that symptom. Because I’m 37 weeks pregnant, I just do light exercises like walking in the room and breathing exercises every day.

On December 31, 2021, I was called for a test and the result was negative. On January 1, 2022, I was able to go home.

After being infected with Covid-19, I find spirituality is very important. Patients need to keep an optimistic and positive attitude, especially pregnant women. During the treatment, F0 needs to eat well, not skip meals, if tired, you can eat less or drink strength to ensure nutrition, helping the body to “fight” the virus. Up to now, when I have been home for a few days, I consider myself very lucky because both myself and the fetus are fine. I have not tested the PCR again when I get home, but will continue to isolate in my room to make sure I don’t infect my loved ones.
