He runs and runs and runs …
FC clearer Ellyes Skhiri (25) is the VW Beetle of the league. Cologne’s marathon man in relegation battle. No Bundesliga player unwinds more kilometers this season than the Tunisian national player, who – thanks to his new qualifications – will become the FC’s greatest trump card in the battle for relegation.
Skhiri runs away from the League for the rescue. Skhiri ran a total of 272.84 kilometers even before the home game against Werder Bremen (Sun, 3:30 p.m. / Sky). A whopping 12.8 kilometers per 90 minutes – exactly as much as from the RheinEnergie Stadium to the cathedral and back. Both record values!
In second place in the league statistics is Skhiri’s next rival: Werder professional Maximilian Eggestein (262.34 km) before Stuttgart Wataru Endo (254.6 km).
Trainer Markus Gisdol (51) praises his marathon man: “Ellyes is indispensable for us. An important team player who runs over a lot of rooms and wins an incredible number of balls for us. “
Skhiri has also become dangerous for goals under Gisdol. Important in times of the storm in Cologne! In Munich, Skhiri made his fourth league stand (2 assists) last Saturday, making him Cologne’s second top scorer behind Elvis Rexhbecaj (5 goals). Incidentally, the endurance runner also completed 13.21 kilometers at Bayern – a match day record!
Skhiri is running away from the league and could be the first professional in the last ten years to break the 410 kilometer mark. For him, however, it should be more important that his running route ultimately leads to relegation and not to the 2nd division!
